Peace, Locomotion by Jacqueline Woodson is told through a series of letters from 12-year old Lonnie Motion, or Locomotion, to his younger sister Lili. Lonnie and Lili have lived in different foster homes from one another ever since their parents died 5 years before. Lonnie has designated himself the "rememberer" for the two of them, so he writes her constantly and plans to give her the letters when they can live together once again when he is old enough to take care of her. Parts of the story are sad, but it's not completely hopeless. One review described the story as "bittersweet," and that is as good a word as any other to use.
